Read on for the perfect three-day itinerary for your girls' trip to the coast

Day 1

Start your trip off the right way with a visit to SUNday’s Café, a locally-owned café and coffee shop offering a taste of Wrightsville Beach’s relaxed surfer personality. Fuel your day with a fresh-brewed coffee or tea paired with one of their classic Tropical Acai Bowls.

Experience boutique shopping in Wrightsville Beach beginning at Hallelu Boutique. New shipments of stylish women’s clothing, jewelry, shoes and accessories arrive daily for a unique shopping experience. Head to REDIX for favorite brands like Liverpool Jeans, Karlie, Southern Tide and more. Just across the bridge in Wilmington, Lumina Station is a charming shopping village full of independent boutiques that is known for its beautiful landscaping, whimsical sculptures and storybook bridges.

Take a break to indulge in the flavors of Panama with lunch at Ceviche’s, a cozy Latin American restaurant with a charming outdoor courtyard. Taste the signature dish for which the restaurant is named – ceviche – which “cooks” fish in citrus juices and spices rather than traditional cooking methods. The restaurant also serves up delicious Tuna Poke Wraps, Jerk Camarones, Panamanian Paella, Caribbean Fried Oysters and Tres Queso Empanadas.

Make your way to Airlie Gardens to explore the 67 acres of formal gardens, 10 acres of lakes, more than 75,000 azaleas and the stately Airlie Oak. Walk the trails to enjoy the blooms or stop into the Butterfly House, open May 15 to Oct. 15, to be surrounded by native butterflies in the open-air structure.

Check in for your stay at Blockade Runner Beach Resort. With its island-chic décor, hand-painted murals and oceanfront gardens, there’s no better place to spend your getaway. Each floor is decorated with a different theme, ranging from bohemian to nautical. Experience stunning sunrises, sunsets or both, as the resort offers views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the sound on the other. Rest up for the evening in your oceanfront or soundside room or relax in a personal cabana by the pool with a drink in hand from the poolside bar.

Take the fun to Oceanic for dinner. Known for its spectacular ocean views, the restaurant is situated at the beginning of a pier and offers 475 feet of covered al fresco seating with stunning ocean views. Enjoy coastal-inspired cuisine, from starters like Crispy Calamari and Carolina Crab Dip to entrees like Seared Diver Scallops, Calabash Seafood Platters and Strip Steak. Sip on specialty cocktails and stick around for live music from April through September on Fridays and Sundays.

Day 2

Another day, another brunch! Hit up Adapt Kitchen & Juice Bar for a healthy meal that will fill you with nutrients for the rest of the day’s activities. Choose between organic coffees, espresso drinks, teas, fresh juices and smoothies, and take your pick between a variety of different breakfast bowls and artisan-style toasts.

After filling up for the day, head back to the Blockade Runner to experience their Surf to Sound Adventures. Whether you’re into sailing, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons, or would rather sit back, relax and take in the views as an experienced captain takes you out on the water, there’s plenty for the whole group to enjoy regardless of skill level. If you’re dreaming of an afternoon escape, rent kayaks or paddleboards from Wrightsville SUP and paddle out to Masonboro Island Reserve. Reconnect with nature and each other as you relax on the uninhabited island.

Grab lunch at Shark Bar & Kitchen, a fun coastal-casual spot right by Johnnie Mercers Pier. Indulge in fresh oysters, Calabash-style seafood baskets, steak frites and salads as well as made-from-scratch bar snacks like loaded tots and mac and cheese. Top off your meal with key lime pie, brownie a la mode or crème brûlée with fresh fruit.

Bask in the afternoon sun with a boat tour around the local waterways and nearby barrier islands with Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours. While enjoying the views from your vantage point on the water, learn about local history, ecology and culture, and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife sightings. Additional tours are offered later in the evenings like the Twilight Cocktail cruise with the Blockade Runner and sunset cruises with La Dee Dah Sunset Cruises.

Head to dinner at Bluewater Waterfront Grill. Enjoy panoramic views of the Intracoastal Waterway no matter where you’re seated, and cheers with a Seaside Mojito, Sunset Margarita or another specialty cocktail. Experience fresh, local seafood with crab cakes, spicy calamari, seared scallop scampi and more. Watch the boats coast by as the sun goes down on your second day with delicious food and the people you enjoy the most.

Spend the rest of your evening sipping on craft beer at Flying Machine Taproom + Kitchen. In addition to the full bar, it offers 10 rotating taps of Flying Machine beer brewed locally in Wilmington. Depending on when you go, you may find a tangerine cream ale, a Neapolitan ice cream-inspired stout or a raspberry fruited sour.

Day 3

For your last day in town, wake up early to catch the sunrise, then take a walk or jog around the 2.5-mile Loop, a favorite of locals, passing by marshes, across waterway bridges and among gardens. Find your Zen with yoga classes on the beach offered through the Blockade Runner for everyone from beginner to advanced. Snag an oceanfront table indoors or on the outdoor seating at EAST Oceanfront Dining for a fresh-to-table breakfast.

Take the party over the bridge to Wilmington to treat yourself and your girls to a relaxing visit to Head to Toe Spa, where you can choose from a wide variety of treatments including facials, a manicure or pedicure, an infrared sauna, massages and so much more. Finish off your day of self-care with a trip to Wilmington’s Prana Salt Cave and enjoy its many holistic wellness benefits.

Sometimes all you need is a getaway with your girls, and Wrightsville Beach offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. No matter the size of your group or what you’re looking to get out of the weekend, Wrightsville Beach offers everything you need.
